Follow ups

Here's some answers to comments I've received in the last few days.

Laura - I followed Dr. Dempsey around. Isn't she wonderful?

Amy - I think what I like about family medicine right now is the fact that it's all about variety. You get a little taste of everything. Neuro, ortho, cards, are all interesting on their own, but why pick 1? It's kind of fun to see it all. That being said - I'll probably go into something super specific like pediatric urology. Ha!

Same reason I love acute care & don't specialize in 1 thing- variety.
But, I guess my 1 big gripe with any & all family med docs (your Papaw excluded!) is that they are a jack of all trades but a master of none. I'm speaking from a professional & personal level- I see too many family med docs that miss some major things, that I don't consider to be "specialized". (Literally last year saw my own family med doc miss a CVA in a patient and tell him it was a "stress" reaction to work. And you & I both know family med docs that don't know squat about DM.) It's almost like if it is not HTN, or a basic rash, they can't pick it up.
I prefer at this point to pinpoint the area of my body that is affected & then go straight to a specialist that I know can fix it.
I avoid the doc-in-a-box (ie: MEA) for the reason that they can't figure out anything that's not super basic.
That's all for my rant. I have been home cooped up with children with the "fever virus" (Trip) and flu (Truitt) since Thursday. Perhaps I need to get back to work where I can vent my feelings in a productive work setting. :)

I'm not taking bait to comment on anything but Dr. Dempsey. Ha, or Martha as she is to me anywhere except in front of an attending! She was an FMIG officer with me last year...really fun.
